Flossie Mae Evans Johnson, 88, died Tuesday morning, October 13, 2015 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter. Born in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Evans and Irene McFadden Evans. She was the loving wife for almost 69 years to the late Harry Johnson. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and joined St. John AME Church, Kingstree. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. After getting married, she moved to Sumter, where she joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church . She served as a member of the Wide Awake Ministry, Missionary Ministry and Women’s Society. She worked in the church for more than 60 years. Professionally, she attended and graduated from Gardner Beauty School in 1962 with a degree in Cosmetology. She began her career at Clyburn Beauty Shop and later started her own business where she became an entrepreneur sponsoring others until she retired. She leaves to cherish her memories: a son, David (Carrie) Johnson, a daughter, Dorothy (Lamon) O’Neal, both of Sumter; one sister, Theola Evans McFadden; five grandchildren, Nikia Johnson Bryant of Hilliard, OH, LT COL Ryan (Maisha) O’Neal of Sumter, Dr. Monica O’Neal of Boston, MASS, Ebony Johnson of Seattle, WA and Dr. David Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; four great grandchildren, Hayden and Mason Bryant of Hilliard, OH and Michaela and Micah O’Neal of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Mary B. Johnson of Sumter; two brothers-in-law, Henry Johnson and Wesley Johnson of Bronx, NY; two special nieces, Elizabeth Berry and Patricia Willis of Sumter; Vera Burgess and Daisy Evans of Philadelphia, PA who were raised as sisters; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon. Saturday October 17, 2015 at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 805 South Harvin Street, Sumter, with Pastor Marion H. Newton, Senior pastor, eulogist. The family is receiving friends at the home, 924 Saltwood Road, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. The procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a. m. Floral bearers will be nieces. Pall bearers will be family and friends. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park.
