Georgie Mae Phillips Johnson, 84, returned to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sumter. Born in Sumter County, May 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Lottie Saxton Phillips. She graduated from Morris College in 1953 with a baccalaureate degree in early childhood education. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She married Samuel Johnson on June 30, 1956 in New York, N. Y. They settled and raised their family in Philadelphia, PA before returning to their home in Dalzell. Prior to her illness, Georgie was actively involved with the VFW and Senior Missionary Society at Joshua Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband, Samuel; her son, Marvin Johnson, (Lawanda) of Charlotte, NC; her daughters, Sonia Carter (Quincy) of Knoxville, TN, Veda Byrd (Reginald) of Chesapeake, VA; eleven grandchildren; her brothers, Jervais Phillips (Liz) and Marion Phillips, both of Philadelphia, PA; aunt, Gertrude White of Sumter; a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene Dennis, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Roosevelt Williams and the Rev. William Jefferson. The family is receiving friends at the home, 3905 Ardis Pond Road, Dalzell. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. The processional will leave the home at 10:30 a. m. Floral Bearers will be the Senior Missionaries. Pall Bearers will be trustees. Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
