Shirley Mae Bennett Kennedy, 77, was called by God from labor to rest after a long illness on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born April 18, 1942, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late George Bennett and Lottie P. Mouzon. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. She married David Kennedy Jr. and to this union one son was born, whom proceeded her in death. She attended Melina Presbyterian Church. Shirley enjoyed going to church and singing on the choir. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, David Christopher Anthony (Dionne); two brothers, Apostle Harold Lee Bennett of Hartsville, Herman L. Bennett (Pearl) of Sumter; three sisters, Mary E. Hoffman of Long Island, NY, Gloria J. Bennett of Patterson, NJ, Lottie P. Bennett (Calvin) of Sumter; one grandson, De’treion Tomlin; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 630 Dogwood Lane, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 11 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Daniel Bennett, officiating, eulogist. Funeral procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m.
