Harry Lee Smoot, Sr., 82, was born on February 24, 1937 to the late Alexander and Leila McBryde Smoot. He departed his earthly life on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at his home in Sumter. He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and attended the University of South Carolina. In his earlier years he attended Enon Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Campbell’s Soup and later retired from Prescott Metals after more than 30 years of truck driving. He leaves in his honor, his wife, Cathlene Shaw Smoot and to this union two children were born. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Eunice Dow and from that union, five children were born. He was also preceded in death by his common law wife, Rosa Mae Woods and from this union, one son was born. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Cathlene Shaw Smoot; four sons, Leon (Alexcia) Smoot of Fort Campbell, KY, Lorenzo (Chanel) Woods of Northwest Annex, VA, Larry (Carla) Smoot of High Point, NC and Charles Smoot of Texas; three daughters, Dianne Smoot of Sumter, Carrie Smoot of High Point, NC and Rosa Lee (Dwight) Rumph of Texas; several step children; two sisters, Flossie Mae Vereen of New York and Jeanette Smoot Robinson of Sumter; a companion of many years, Elouise Deleon; a special cousin, Francina Dix; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends from the neighborhood and many other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of Johnny and JoAnn Gore, 101 Vining Street, Sumter and 137 High Avenue, Apt A, Sumter. Memorial services will be held Friday, February 21, 2020 – 10 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Pastor Gwendolyn Credle, eulogist. The procession will leave from 137 High Avenue, Apt A, Sumter at 9: 30 a. m.
