Robert Lee Sanders, Sr., 73, affectionately known as “Rock”, was born April 23, 1946 to the late Walter and Lucille Sanders. Rock departed his life on August 23, 2019 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. He accepted and received Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Union Baptist Church of Rembert. Upon graduating from Ebenezer High School in 1964, he continued to reside in Rembert until his death. Rock started his career at Williams Furniture for several years and later invested 38 years as a textile worker at DuPont in Lugoff until he retired. Rock was a loyal and avid fan of baseball and was a pitcher for The Dennis Rockets baseball team of Rembert. Along with his wife, he was an active member of the Wings of Love Couples Club. Rock was joined in holy matrimony to Wilhelmina Nelson on January 30, 1966 and to this union four children were born. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Wilhelmina Sanders of 53 years; his children, Robert Lee Sanders, Jr. (Janice) of Atlanta, GA, Sonya Richardson of Sumter, Valarie Sanders-China (Stephen) of Dalzell and Shekia Sanders of Rembert; seven grandchildren, Fredrick, Joshua, Jaylen, Rinnah, Stephen, Whitni and Olivia; three sisters, Eva Sanders of Queens, NY, Jessie Pressley of Rembert and Linda Pressley (Michael) of Columbia; one brother, David Sanders of Rembert; four sisters-in-law, Lena Campbell, Florence Kendrick, Henry Ann Grant and Shirley Nelson; eight aunts; four uncles; one grand dog, Trigger; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the family home, 5085 Dais Road, Rembert. Homegoing Celebration will be held 1:00 p. m., Thursday, August 29, 2019 from the Union Baptist Church, 5840 Springhill Road, Rembert, with the Rev. Walter Robertson III, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 12 noon. The funeral procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m. Burial will be in the Union Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
