Ruth Felix Franklin 102, of Woodrow, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Blue Ridge Health Care Facility of Sumter. Ruth was the second daughter born to the late Purvis and Mamie Scarborough Felix in Lynchburg on December 2, 1917. She graduated in 1958 from Cosmetology School in Sumter and became a license cosmetologist. She is a 1969 graduate of Dennis High School, Bishopville. Ruth was married to the late John Franklin, Jr. for 61 years. She was actively involved in the Woodrow Community, where she served as a mentor, a cosmetologist and a proprietress of Franklin’s grocery store. She was a spiritual person and found God at an early age at Mt. Pleasant A. M. E. Church, Lynchburg. Upon marrying John Franklin, Jr., she continued her walk with God at Barnettsville Baptist Church. Mother Ruth, as she was affectionately called, served in many capacities such as president of the Missionary Board, Usher Board, and Senior Choir. She was highly involved in Christian Education by teaching Sunday School and directed and organized many of the primary youth programs at the church. She was also a member of the Benjamin Chapter OES #346. She loved life and she lived it by helping others. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Betty Buckley, Samuel Franklin (Carolyn), Randolph Franklin (Sarah), and Patricia Frierson (William); two siblings, Wilhelmina Fulwood and James “Baby Ray” Felix; one sister-in-law, Eunice Felix; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, William and Patricia Frierson, 2885 Woodrow Road, Woodrow. Funeral Services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, February 1, 2020 from the Barnettsville Baptist Church, 106 Manville – St. Charles Road, Bishopville with the Rev. Wayne A. Montgomery, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11 a. m. The funeral procession will leave the home at 11:20 a. m. Interment will follow in the Barnettsville Baptist Church Yard Cemetery. These services are entrusted to the Management and Staff of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter.
