Arthur Lee Pershay, 76, was born in Lee County to the late Albertus and Bessie Sinkler Pershay. He was the youngest of 12 children. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. “Duley”, as he was affectionately called by everyone, attended the public schools of Lee County. At an early age he joined Barnettsville Baptist Church. He was employed at Sumter Casket Company until his health failed. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lula Mae Brailsford Pershay and his five children, Diane (Larry) Collins of Columbia, Brenda (Robert) Stinney of Sumter, Ann Witherspoon of Summerville, Renee Pershay of the home, and Elder Arthur (Etta) Pershay, Jr. of Ashland, VA; one adopted daughter, Ida (John) Atkinson of Sumter; one sister, Ida Melton of Sumter; two brothers, Ernest (Mary) Pershay of Roselle, N. J., LeRoy (Liz) Pershay of Plainfield, N. J.; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 112 Vining Street, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 p. m., Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph L. Brown, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be place in the church at 1:30 p. m. The funeral procession will leave the home at 1:50 p. m. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Sumter.
