Mable “Cooney” Clarkson, 91, transitioned to eternal life on Saturday, April 18, 2020. She was born on March 15, 1929 to the late William Bradley and Ivy Evans. Mrs. Clarkson was raised in Oswego, SC. After the untimely demise of her husband John Clarkson Sr., Mable devoted her time to her faith and the upbringing of her 5 young children. After successfully raising her children into adulthood, she then earned her high school diploma from Sumter School District 2. This is just one example of Mable’s determination and perseverance. Mrs. Clarkson was a dedicated member of Clark UM Church where she was a member of various choirs, a Sunday school teacher, an Usher, and a Certified Lay Speaker. She was truly an inspiration to many. Her love for Christ and others was shown through benevolence in the community and kinship. Mable is preceded in death by her parents and daughter Linda Clarkson. She is survived by 4 generations to include her children, Shirley Clarkson, Joseph (Deena) Clarkson, both of Columbia, SC, John (Tiesta) Clarkson III of Sumter, SC, MaryEtta Clarkson of Orlando, FL, and Terry (Vivian) Clarkson of Marietta, GA; nine grandchildren, Anthony (Kiana) Smalls, Tianna Clarkson, Adrian Clarkson, Brian Clarkson, Joseph Clarkson Jr. all of Atlanta, GA, John E. (Nanette) Clarkson of Huntsville, AL, Yolanda (Vincent) Dupree of Greenville, SC and Chrystal Morgan, Darnell Clarkson, both of Columbia, SC; 13 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Her love for life was endless and she demonstrated that daily in the lives of those she encountered. Mable’s legacy lives on through the hearts of the many she touched. Her children extend their heartfelt thanks to her large extended family and beloved friends. A public viewing for Mrs. Clarkson will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 821 N. Main Street, Sumter, SC 29150 between 1:00 - 5:00 pm, Thursday April 23, 2020. Any form of condolences can be sent to 161 Oleander Mill Way, Columbia, SC 29229 in care of Shirley Ann Clarkson. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, a private committal will be held to lay Mrs. Clarkson to rest at the burial site located at Clark United Methodist Church, Oswego, SC. A memorial to properly honor Mable will be scheduled at a later date for all of those who wish to celebrate her life, love, and legacy.
