Thomasina “Tommie” Perry Cooper, 83, daughter of the late Thomas Perry, Sr. and Emma Murphy Perry, was born on August 9, 1936 in Rembert. Thomasina departed this life in peace at her home on May 28, 2020. She received her formal education at Westbury Elementary School in Horatio. She attended High Hill Middle School and Ebenezer High School. She was a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church and New Fellowship Baptist Church. She received her license in Cosmetology at Wilford Academy in New Jersey and several certificates in Child Development from Essex County College. She also received several more certificates in Child Development from Central Carolina Technical College in South Carolina. Thomasina moved to Newark, New Jersey at the age of 21, where she met and married the late Leartist Cooper. In this union seven children were born. She along with her husband became business owner. After several years with helping her husband getting their business up and running she returned to the work force. She worked at Montclair State College in New Jersey for 5 years and later at the University Hospital for several years before retiring and relocating back to South Carolina, where she worked at High Hill Day Care. She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Akbar (Angie) Ali of North Carolina, Saldin Cooper MD of Georgia, Rahman Cooper of South Carolina; four daughters, Jennifer Cooper of Florida, Shurranda Cooper and Ashia Cooper of New Jersey, Kamilah Cooper of Sumter; one brother, Walter (Margie) Perry and one sister, Rev. Emma Francis Jenkins of New York; four grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family is requesting no visitation at the home. Viewing will be 11 a. m. to 4 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Graveside services will be held 2 p. m., Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter, with Pastor Dale Edwards, pastor of New Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating, eulogist. Procession will leave from the home at 1:20 p. m.
