Jesse Davis, 61, departed this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, surrounded by his beloved wife and children at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born September 12, 1958 in Sumter County, he was the sixth youngest of eight children born to the late Lucious Davis Sr. and Earthay Mae Temoney Davis Holmes. He was united in holy matrimony for 42 years to Betty Kennedy Davis, and to this union two children were born. Jesse was raised in the Oswego Community and attended the public schools of Sumter County. He graduated from Mayewood High School, Class of 1977, where he played football with the “Vikings”. After graduation, he entered the work force and was employed in the construction business for almost 40 years. He retired from Jim Young Construction Company in Cleveland, Georgia due to his failing health. At an early age, Jesse accept Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Beulah A. M. E. Church. Jesse is survived by his wife, Betty Kennedy Davis; his mother, Earthay M. Holmes; children, Cedric (Kewanna) and Jevon Davis of Sumter, Hope Richardson of Ohio; six siblings, Lucious (Hattie) Davis, Herbert (Ida) Davis of Sumter, Willie (Carolyn) Davis of Manning, Betty (Marvin) Wilson of Jacksonville, FLA, Deloris (Jimmy) Davis of Rembert and Avone (Reverend Dr. Jeffrey) Hunter of Columbia; two aunts, Marie Goodly and Rosa Lee Nelson of Sumter; two uncles, James and Clyde Davis of New York; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives who loved him dearly and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 3500 Wedgefield Road, Sumter. Graveside services will be held 11:00 o’clock in the morning, Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Beulah A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery, 3175 Florence Highway, US 76, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dewayne Bruce, pastor, the Rev. Archie S. Temoney, officiating. Procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m.
