Priscilla Hunter Washington, 72, more affectionally known as “Mama Lou”, was born on April 19, 1948 in Sumter to the late Thomas “Snap” Hunter, Sr. and Addell Richardson Hunter. After the death of her biological mother, she was raised by her stepmother, the late Lottie Bell Mack Hunter. Priscilla was educated in the public schools of Sumter. She was a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as an usher and a deaconess along side of her husband, Johnnie Washington. Early in life, she was the founding member of a local female community softball team “The Tigerettes” that played against other community softball teams. She was also one of the founding members of the “Sounds of Gospel, the gospel singing group at St. Luke A. M. E. Church. Priscilla was a former employee of Crescent Tools Industry Plant in Sumter where she was employed for 28 years. Left to cherish her memories: her husband of forty years, Deacon Johnnie Washington of the home; her son, Rev. (Chaplain) Timothy (Karen) Hunter of Camden; her daughters, Wanda (Christian Delauney) Washington of Marshfield, MA and Juan Washington of Quincy, MA; three grandchildren; five sisters, Mildred Britton, Thomasina (James) Jackson, Patricia Hunter Titus and Loretta (Orin) Dennis, all of Sumter, Ometta Ann Hunter of Bridgeport, CT; three brothers, Waddell (Gloria) Hunter, Rev. Clarence (Lillie) Hunter and George Hunter, all of Sumter; two aunts, Rovena Richardson of Sumter and Gita Mack of Shelby, N. C. one uncle, Raymond (Brenda) Mack of Sumter; and a host of brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, godsons, loving cousins and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all home visitation at 320 China Lane, Sumter. Family private viewing will be 3:00 – 4:00 p. m. with public viewing from 4:00 – 6:00 p. m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Celebration of Life services will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, October 9, 2020 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter with the Rev. (Chaplain) Timothy Hunter, officiating, The procession will leave from the home at 11:30 a. m. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cain's Mill Road, Sumter.
