Pearl Loyd, 67, was born to the late Eddie and Carrie Dinkins Loyd on November 5, 1953 in Sumter. She peacefully departed this earth on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Allen University, Columbia. In 1995, she moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she began a career as a Bacteriologist employed by the State of Virginia. After retirement, she remained in Virginia. She was a devoted sister and aunt. She was genuine, strong-willed and independent. She loved to dance, sing in random vibrato tones and speak French. The love that she had for her family and friends, community and church was overwhelming. There are many special people in her life that are left to cherish her memories: two brothers, Edward (Inez) Loyd and Earl (Cynthia) Loyd of Virginia Beach, VA; and a host of nieces, other relatives and friends. Public viewing will be 2:00 - 5:00 p. m., Sunday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Graveside services will be held 12:00 Noon, Monday, December 7, 2020 at Wayman Chapel A. M. E. Church, 180 North King Highway, Sumter, with the pastor, Rev. Robert China, officiating. The procession will depart from Williams Funeral Home at 11:20 a. m.
