Gladys Dinkins Williams, 67, was born July 5, 1953 in Rembert to Laura Workman Dinkins and the late Ollie Dinkins, Sr. She gained her wings to glory on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Gladys was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School, Class of 1971. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, where she was baptized and made a full pledge member. She had a passion for reading and writing. She worked several jobs as a secretary and was privilege to become a Notary Republic. She was also enthusiastic with driving and landed jobs driving buses for Sumter School District # 2, RTA and the YMCA. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her mother, Laura W. Dinkins; one son, James (Raven) Williams, Jr.; three daughters, Karen Deloris Williams, Laurie Elizabeth Williams and Yolanda Yvette Williams; two brothers, Frank (Mary) Sanders, Sr. and Ollie Dinkins, Jr.; eight sisters, Linnie Mae Singleton, Genovia (Jimmie) Dennis, Gloria Dinkins, Jacqueline Dinkins, Kathy English, Tracey (Roosevelt) Nelson, Ethel Dinkins and Jduna Dinkins; fifteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four aunts; three uncles; three special cousins that she reared in the house with Lane Robinson, Patricia Nichelson and Deborah Butler; a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, relatives and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during limited visitation at the home, 4620 Easy Street, Rembert. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Thursday, March 4, 2021 in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, officiating. The procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a. m. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
