Mattie Rebecca Blanding was born on November 4, 1923 in Sumter County. She was the second eldest child of Mattie Campbell Burkett and George Burkett Sr. She met Bonnie (Boney) Blanding after his return to South Carolina from serving in World War II. They married on October 1, 1947 and moved to Bridgeport, CT and were married 62 years until his death on November 20, 2009. Mattie Rebecca resided in Bridgeport, CT., for 73 years. She departed this life on June 7, 2021. She is remembered fondly by individuals whom she touched during their childhood, from schools, church and community. She was an active member of the Pentecostal Apostolic Faith Assemblies Church of the first born. She served as Assistant Secretary, Missionary, etc. She became Mother of the Antioch Church and served until her death. She is survived by: two sons, Reginald (Jeanette) English of Virginia and Bynum (Rosalyn) Blanding of Bridgeport, CT; five daughters, Dorothy (William) English of Georgia, Dolores Blanding of San Francisco, CA, Juliette Blanding Rascoe of Bridgeport, CT, Geraldine (William) Ford of Columbus, Ohio and Mattie Ruth Blanding of Bridgeport, CT.; two sisters, Elizabeth Brunson of Rembert, and Magnolia White of New Haven, CT; many loving grandchildren, great-grand children, great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COV19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home on Thursday and Friday from 5 – 8 p. m., 6500 Fish Road, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 – 11:00 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Pastor Donald Amos, officiating. The procession will leave from the home at 10:30 a. m. Burial will be in the High Hill Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 6750 Meeting House Road, Dalzell.
