Marion Kevin Mitchell, son of Ruthie M. Golden Mitchell and the late Richard Mitchell, was born on August 11, 1956. He was called home to be with the Lord on October 25, 2021. He attended Harrity Elementary School and University City High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating with the Class of 1974. He graduated from Community College of the Air Force with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronic Systems Technology and St. Leo University, cum laude, in 2007. Marion joined the military on December 28, 1977 at the age of 21. He completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas, technical training at Chanute AFB, Illinois, Lowery AFB, Colorado and Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Over his military career he was assigned to many squadrons. He retired from the military after 26 years on December 31, 2002 as an E7 or Senior Master Sergeant. Marion grew up in the A. M. E. Church as a child. While deployed in Okinawa, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and turned his life around. At Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, he met Wendy Ann Cooper, fell in love and they were married on September 8, 1984. This union was blessed with two children, Kassandra D. and Kevin A. Mitchell and many adopted children. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Wendy; his children, Kassandra and Kevin; brother, Richard; three grandchildren, Selena, Wayne and Cooper; mother-in-law, Frances Cooper; sisters-in-law, Wanda (Robert) Ricks and Gretta (Byron) Parker; brother-in-law, Dariell Cooper (Betty), and a host of adopted children, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 4015 Dubose Siding Road, Sumter. Graveside services will be held Sunday, October 31, 2021 – 2:00 P. M. at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter, with the Rev. Ernest Brown, pastor of Bethel A. M. E. Church, Eulogist, officiating. The procession will leave at 1:30 p. m. from the home.
