James Anthony “Tony” McCoy, son of the late Marie McCoy and raised by Moses and Geneva McCoy Hudson, was born in New York, New York. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 22, 2022. He was educated in the Sumter County District public schools and graduated from Sumter High School, Class of 1981. Affectionately known as “Tony”, he always knew how to make a person smile and give of himself his time and love for his family, friends and his animals. Precious memories will be shared by his parents, Moses and Geneva McCoy Hudson of Sumter; five sons, James (Felicia) Colclough of Cameron, N. C., Darrin McCain of Sumter, Antwan Sims of Virginia, Thomas Whitley and Antwan Wright of Sumter whom he reared in the home; five daughters, Lindsay Colclough of Columbia, Shemeka Sims of Charlotte, N. C. Davita Bradford and Tracy Bradford of Sumter, whom he reared in the home; three brothers, Kelvin (Yvette) McCoy of Columbia, Michael (Martha) Hudson of Charlotte, N. C., Alston (Juana) Freeman of Sumter; one sister, Yvette (Chris) Thames of Charlotte, N. C.; twelve grandchildren; his companion, Shonda Whatley of Sumter; five aunts, Annie (Philip) Rembert, Beverly (Gerard) Benjamin, Hattie (Robert) Nathaniel of Sumter, Audrey (Sam) McDonald of Orangeburg, Mattie Synder (Sam) of Delaware; three uncles, Willie (Diane) Hudson, James Kelly of Sumter and John Durant of Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations from 4:00 – 8:00 p. m. at the home of Moses and Geneva McCoy Hudson, 988 Rebecca Cove Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Thursday, May 26, 2022, in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Jerome McCray, pastor of Unionville A. M. E. Church, Eulogist. The procession will leave from the home at 12:30 p. m. Burial will be in the Unionville A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville.
