Welcome to Williams Funeral Home

Margaret Dinkins Williams was born on May 18, 1919 in Rembert, to the late Galloway Dinkins and Janie Chestnut Dinkins. Mrs. Williams departed this life on July 21, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family in Sumter, at the age of 103. Mrs. Williams received her early education in the Sumter County Public Schools in South Carolina. Margaret was united in marriage to Vanderbilt Marshall. From this union two sons were born, David and Harry. Margaret, affectionately known as “Sister”, accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Rafting Creek Baptist Church before locating to New York City where she became a member of St. John’s Baptist Church and attended faithfully until her health failed. After the death of her husband, Herman Williams, she relocated back to South Carolina and resided in Sumter, South Carolina until her death. Margaret later met and married Herman Williams, the love of her life. She enjoyed many years of travel with Herman, stopping along the way from New York to Florida visiting with her sisters and other relatives in South Carolina. She also cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved listening to her favorite gospel and Christmas music and preparing her favorite dishes. Margaret also loved to joke with family and friends. If you wanted to hear a good joke and get a good laugh, just make sure you were in the company of Margaret. Margaret leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: her beloved granddaughter, Penelope Marshall McGown (Emanuel) of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Bertha Dinkins of Rembert, S. C., Sarah Williams of San Antonio, Texas, Brenda Cooper (Sonny) of DeSoto, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Diana) and Lester (Ida), both of Dallas, Texas; one step daughter, Mildred Williams Scott of Oakland, California; god son, Juan Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her memories will also be cherished by her lifelong friends in New York, May Williams, Armean Mayo, Mattie Pulley, Mary Barthell and Pastor John L. Scott of St. John’s Baptist Church, New York, New York. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her two sons, and two granddaughters.
