Herbert Lee Mark, Sr., affectionately known as “Sonnyboy, was born April 23, 1955 in Sumter. He was the son of the late Bert Pershay, Jr. and Rosa Lee Mark Linton. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. He attended the public schools of Sumter County, District #2, and graduated from Maywood High School with the Class of 1973. After graduation, he began working for B. L. Montegue of Sumter. He later joined the United States Army in 1974. Upon returning from serving his country he was employed by the City of Sumter for 10 years. In 1989, he began working at Bosch Breaking System in Sumter, which lasted for 18 years. His last place of employment was Hengst in Camden, where he retired in 2011. Herbert leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth McCauley Mark. They are the proud parents of three sons, Herbert Jr. (Makeisa), Travis (Brandy), and Keith, all of Sumter. Herbert also leaves three sisters, Mae Frances (Tony), Elizabeth and Emma; one brother, Robert (Nora) of Fayetteville, N. C.; two uncles, Sonny and Roy Pershay; one aunt, Ruby Pershay; three sisters-in-law, Elease McDuffie, Sybil McMillian and Eartha McCauley; three brothers-in-law, Willie McCauley, Jerry McCauley and Frank McCauley. He was the proud grandfather of three beautiful granddaughters, Jalani Heyward, Mariah Mark and Destiny Regan who will cherish his memories and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 3915 Colony Circle, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m., Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 184 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Kenneth B. Middleton, pastor, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 1:20 p. m. Burial will follow in the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church Yard Cemetery.
