Yvonne Esmé Byrd was born on July 9, 1945, in Birkenhead, England to Saheed Hassan and Ivy Mae Hill. She married the late Livy Eastmond in Liverpool, England in 1963 and had two beautiful daughters, Yvette and Cheryl Eastmond. After Livy and Yvonne divorced, she met her loving husband of 46 years, Ted Lee Byrd, in London, England and they married in 1976. They moved by way of the military to the United States in 1977. Yvonne was a nurse in England and continued as a geriatrics nurse for a few years in the states. She also worked as a secretary and even worked as a fire station cook. Yvonne began working for Marriott alongside her daughter, Cheryl in 1989. Yvonne really enjoyed working at the Marriott. Everyone knew her and she made friends of all ethnicities. She was generous, caring, empathetic, loving, and so much more. Lee’s last duty station was Andrews Air Force Base in 1987 where he retired in 1991 and Yvonne worked at the Crystal City Gateway Marriott until she retired in 2017 after 28 years of service. Yvonne and Lee moved to Sumter, South Carolina in 2017 to reside closer to their daughter, Cheryl, and grandchildren. Her family meant the world to her. Yvonne is survived by: her husband, TSgt Ted Lee Byrd; her daughter, Yvette Eastmond, her daughter (her rock), Cheryl Anita White; her granddaughter, Lucretia White Jackson; her grandson, Joshua Lee White; her grandson-in-law, Dwight Odell Jackson, Jr.; her great-grandsons, Dwight Horus Jackson, Kyree Lee White), Tahj Odell Jackson; her great-granddaughter, Zhuri Auset Jackson, and a host of other relatives and friends. In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitation at the home, 2780 Pintail Drive, #5, Sumter. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, April 15, 2023 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Words of Comfort by Louis White. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m. Interment will be in the Florence National Cemetery, May 12, 2023 at 2:00 P. M..
