Herbert Milton Holmes, the son of the late Samuel and Sue Lee Holmes, was born on March 21,1951 in Sumter. On June 18, 2023, Herbert left this physical life to be with his spiritual master. Herbert, “affectionately known as Miller and Papa”, was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1969. He was employed with the Quality Printing Company in Manning, for 20 20 years before coming back to Sumter to work with Osteen Davis Printing Company and Gamecock Printing Company. Herbert enjoyed working in his garden just to watch the plants grow so that he could give it away to anyone that wanted vegetables. Preceding Herbert in death was his parents Samuel and Sue Lee Holmes, three sisters, Tamora Holmes, Evelyn C. Whaley and Barbara Ann Crim, one brother, Johnny A. Holmes and a nephew, Dontae McFadden. Herbert leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Almae “Nancy” Holme; two daughters, Tonya Holmes-Bumpers and Felicia R. McClam; three sons, Herbert C. (Kenese) Holmes, Tony (Tameka) Holmes, Eric (Michelle) McClam, all of Sumter; two sisters, Marilyn Holmes and Wendy Dinkins of Sumter; two brothers, Sammie Lee (Nita) Holmes and Isaac Jenkins of Sumter; two adopted sisters, Altameaze Britman and Debra Simon; his grandchildren, Eric Michael McClam, Erica McClam, Kiera Herriottm Lamont Herriott, Janae Jackson, Makka Holmes, Destiny Bumpers, Markia Bumpers, Jaylen Stavis, Myasia R’azon, Farranzo Holmes, Toniesha Holmes, Tamara Holmes, Taylor Holmes and Tristan Holmes; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 1832 West Oakland Avenue, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 – 2:30 p. m. at Alive Praise and Worship Center and Ministries, 342 West Liberty Street, Sumter, with Pastor Julia V. Sanders, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:30 p. m. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 2:00 p. m. Burial will be in the Davis Cemetery, James Town Road, Bishopville.
