Arthur McDaniel, Jr. departed this earthly life on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at his residence in Sumter. Born in Sumter County on June 10, 1946, he was the son of the late Arthur and Bertie Wingate McDaniel. At the age of 7, he came to live with the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pressley. At an early age, he joined Union Station A. M. E. Church. Mr. McDaniel or “Big Mac”, as he was affectionately called, was educated and graduated from Sumter School District #2, Hillcrest High School. He was employed with the Cement Trucking Industry. In his spare time as a youngster, he enjoyed singing with his R & B group “Mac & The Classics”. He loved playing baseball at “Jigger’s” and swore that nobody could hit his “slow pitch curve ball”. He loved his three dogs, doing for others and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, ten sisters and five brothers. He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Frances Renay Sigler Williams, Terry T. Lowery, Lonnie (Terracita) Lowery, Peter Stuckey, Robin King, Andre’ Harriett, Pamela Harriett (Mike) Singleton and Herberta Bennett; three sisters, Blanche M. Wright, Barney A. Furman and Mary E. Johnson of New York; two brothers, Jerry (Bonnie) McDaniel of Charlotte, N. C. and Moses (Lavern) McDaniel of Irmo; a true and dedicated friend and brother, Roosevelt Rouse; a very special niece, Margaret A. McDaniel, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 1930 Queen Chapel Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m., Saturday, July 22, 2023 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Joseph Ricks, Eulogist. The Funeral procession will leave the home at 1:30 p. m. Burial will be in the Walker Cemetery, West Oakland Avenue, Sumter.
