Flossie Mae Cook was the daughter of the late Haskel1 Cook and Ella Albert Cook. She was born February 3, 1938. She was called from labor to reward on Monday, August 7, 2023 at her home. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County and Central Carolina Technical College. Flossie worked at Manor Health Facility for 18 years. She was a CNA home health care nurse for many years. Flossie worked until the age of 83 years old. Her passion and hobbies were working in her flower yard, caring for her pot flowers, even after her retirement she continue to care for the sick and being with her family. Early in life, she attended Antioch United Methodist Church and later in life she joined Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. Flossie was a lifelong member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, United Women of Faith, formerly known as the United Methodist Women for which she served as the treasurer for many years. She was an active member of the South Carolina Chapter of the Cooke-Mickens-Cabbagestalk Family Reunion. Flossie leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters, Georgia Cook of Sumter, and Flossie (Ernest) Johnson of Bishopville; one son, Jesse (Wanda) Joe of Dalzell; special nephew, John Joe; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; special cousins, Mary Ruth Cook and Ruth Nedd; special friend, Viola Moses, a host of other cousins, friends, and caretakers. Flossie was proceeded in death by her parents, Haskell Cook and Ella Albert Cook; her sister, Mamie Cook, three uncles, George Cook, Albert and Earnest Albert, her grandparents and other relatives. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations from 1:00 – 8:00 p. m. at the home, 1015 Porter Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Monday, August 14, 2023, at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 184 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter with the Rev. Kenneth Middleton Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 10:15 p. m. Burial will follow in the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
