Jonathan LaGrant, Sr. was born December 17, 1956 in Jacksonville, Florida to the parents of David LaGrant, Sr. and Margaret Burgess LaGrant who proceeded him in death. He was also proceeded in death by his brother, Robert Benjamin and stepson, Theodore “Teddy” Gibson. Jonathan attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Maywood High School, Class of 1975. He was a skilled and awesome A 1 mechanic who could listen to the car and determined what was wrong. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Gibson LaGrant; his children, Constantia Gallishaw (Russell), Jonathan Gundy (Cassandra) and Jabah Gundy and their mother, Valencia Gundy of Rock Hill; his siblings, Larry LaGrant (Betty) of Columbia, Marion (Gloria) Burgess of Bronx, NY, David LaGrant, Jr. of Kassel, Germany, Jerome LaGrant, Margie LaGrant Gaymon of Sumter, and Willie (Rebecca) LaGrant of Lithonia, GA, Millie Ann LaGrant of Waipahu, HI, Felicia LaGrant of Charlottte, N. C., Sarah Louise Harry of North Charleston, Thomas LaGrant, Sr. (Tonia) of Gulfport, MS; his grandchildren, Caseem, Caleel, Zyaira of Rock Hill, S. C., Kaliyah, Xavier, Donta, Aaliyah, Devonte of Sumter, S. C. Jabah, Jr., Jania, Naiceen of Atlanta, GA, Nykim Brown and Michael Gundy of Bronx, N. Y.; his special neighbors, Scooter Jackson, Terry Wright; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 70 Warwick Court, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023 – 11:00 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Elder Ernest Frierson, Officiating. Viewing will be 10:00 a. m. until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m.
