Simon Workman was born and raised in Hagood,, South Carolina. on August 11, 1944 to the late Charlie and Mammie Workman. He resigned in S.C where he attended Sumter County Schools. He was a hard working man who worked as a farmer, doing landscaping, and brick mason. On August 19, 2023, he passed away at Oaks of Hollow of Sumter surrounded by his loving family. Simon was preceded in death by his son, Simon Workman Jr.: three sisters, Claira Harris, Rosa-Mae Dees, Edna Brooks; one sister-in-law, Velva Workman, and two brothers, Charlie Workman Jr. and David Workman. He leaves behind, a lovely wife of 55 years, Janice Workman of Sumter; two stepsons, Larry (Annie) Fleming and Abram Fleming of Sumter; surviving sisters, Anna-Mae Diggs of Rembert, and Deloris (AL) Diggs of Pinewood, SC; six sisters-in-law, Healine Melton of Lake City, Etta (Pete) Singletary of Lake City, Jacqueline Simmons of New Zion, Othelle (Bobby) Evans of Greenville, Taska Brown of Kingstree; three brothers-in-law, Jessie David Fleming of Lake City, Ariecee Fleming of Turbeville, and Willie Fleming of New Zion; two adopted sons, Chris Barnett and Jeffery Fleming of Lake City and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home, 680 Bernie Court, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 – 2:30 P. M. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Joseph Ricks, Officiating and the Rev. Dr. J. Elbert Williams, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 2:00 P. M.
