Mother Mary Lou Phillips, daughter of Gus and Mattie Early, was born on May 21, 1927 in Monroe, Georgia. She passed away on September 4, 2023, at 6:40 a. m. at the age of 96 years old. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home at 6250 Jasper Drive, Rembert, South Carolina 29128 surrounded by family and close friends. She attended Walton County Schools, Macon, Georgia. She was employed at Grady Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia and Twin Pines Elementary School, Brentwood, New York. She was known for her scratch made meals prepared for her family, friends and community. Neighborhood children would gather for a piece of her hot buttered cornbread. Whether you were young or old you could expect one of her cakes; Mystery or perhaps a yellow one adorned with coconut flakes and Maraschino cherries, sweet potato pie or some other delicacy as her way of saying "Thank You", “I Love You” "Feel Better Soon". Mary was blessed with a green thumb. She loved gardening. She had a passion for the wellbeing and beauty of the natural environment. She would spend hours tending to her tomatoes and collard greens and other seasonal vegetables. She knew no matter the situation the Lord would provide. She could not resist taking time to stop and pick Black Berries by the train station or Pecans along the roadside. She would point out Poke Sallet and its medicinal purposes and educate us on how it should be properly harvested and prepared to eat. Mary was a hardworking and resourceful woman. She was a faith filled woman who accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 1978. She served as the Mother of the church at Holy Revelation Tabernacle, Eastover, South Carolina, where her daughter Linda S. Jasper was the Co-Pastor along side her late husband, Reverend John A Jasper. Mary later became Mother of the church at True Vine Outreach Ministry, Eastover, South Carolina under the leadership of Pastor Samuel N Rice. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mary’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing. Mary leaves behind to cherish her life, lessons of love, the many acts of kindness: her remaining children, Mary Early, Bertha Clonts, Linda Jasper, James Scott, Estella Bryant (Mitchell) and Jesse Dixon, Jr., (Renee), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, family, friends, and her church family. She was proceeded in death by her parents; her siblings, Grace Pearl Floyd, Lamar Early, James Early and Trudy Tilman ;and her children, Eugene Scott, and Carolyn Scott. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 6250 Jasper Drive, Rembert. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 – 1:00 p. m. in the Tru Vine Outreach Ministry, 13028 Gardner’s Ferry Road, Eastover, with Pastor Samuel N. Rice, Officiating, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 Noon for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 12:00 Noon. Burial will be in the Tru Vine Outreach Ministry Church Cemetery, Eastover.
