Jo Elizabeth Woods Mulcahey, daughter of the late Thomas R. Woods and Azalee Cooper Woods Knox, was born on December 14, 1954 in Sumter. Liz departed this life on July 26, 2023 at Jacksonville Baptist Health Hospital, Jacksonville, FLA. Liz “as she was affectionately known” was educated in the Sumter County Public Schools System and graduated from Sumter High School, Class of May 1973. After graduation, she attended Sumter Tech and later relocated to Washington, DC, where she worked on Capital Hill for several years. She also played on Senator Strom Thurmon’s Softball team. Liz relocated back to Sumter and started attending the University of South Carolina where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. She pursued her Master’s at Capella University in Family and Marriage Therapy. Liz met the love of her life, Connor P. Mulcahey while attending the University of South Carolina. They were married 25 years during which they travelled all over the world. She was a member of the National Association of Professional Women and National Federation of The Blind. Liz was an avid reader and business owner of Soy Body Care Body Lotion. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Dr. Connor P. Mulcahey; mother-in-law, Anna Mulcahey of Columbia; sisters, Carolyn Woods of Washington, DC, Sherian W. Rodgers of Sumter, Betty Dicks (Louie) of Columbia, Judy Burell of Sumter; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p. m., Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Melina Presbyterian Church USA, 3539 Black River Road, Gable, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Hill, pastor. Procession will leave 1:20 p. m. from the home, 8 Barton Street, Sumter.
