Arthur “Art” Newson, 63, passed away on October 4, 2023 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia. He was born on July 16, 1960 in Gary, Indiana to Walter Givens and Elizabeth Stewart. In July 1978, he enlisted in the United States Air Force with the goal to further his education, travel the world and proudly served our country with dedication and honor. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Newson; his sons, Rashad (Rayn) Newson and Duane (Cyntrel) Newson; three grandchildren; his mother, Elizabeth Stewart and four siblings. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home, 313 Denby Circle, Columbia. Celebration of Life services will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 – 12:00 Noon at St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church, 2229 Hampton Street, Columbia. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. The procession will leave the home at 11:15 a. m. Burial will be Monday, October 16, 2023 – 10:00 A. M. in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. Services directed by The Management and Staff of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter.
