Betty Jean Hardy, daughter of the late Elliott McDonald and Margaret Robinson McDonald, was born on March 15, 1940 in Lee County. She departed this earthly life on November 22, 2023 in the comfort of her home. Betty graduated from Lincoln High School and was married to Herman Hardy in 1959. In 1973, she finished nursing school in Southern California and received Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) certification. She was employed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for many years prior to retiring at the age of 75 in 2015. She was a beloved wife and mother to her husband, Herman and five sons, Herman, Jr. (Erica), Gary (Tracey), Maurice, Anthony (Gayle), Rodney (Cynthia); fourteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. ¬¬She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Ethel Vaughn, Lillie Mae Tiller, Eugene McDonald, James McDonald, Ernest McDonald, Valentine McDonald, Ella Presley, Robert McDonald, and Elli McDonald. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Wake service will be today, 5:00 – 6:00 p. m., in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be 11:00 a. m., Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc. 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. J. Elbert Williams, Officiating. The funeral procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m.
