Brother Elvis W. King, mostly known by family and friends as “El” or “Slim”, departed this earthly life on Monday, November 27, 2023. Born June 6, 1959, he was the son of the late Gillon and Rebecca King. El attended Lee County Public Schools. Elvis was the Captain of Mt. Pleasant High School Basketball team. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School with the Class of 1978, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served as Lance Corporal prior to his return to civilian life. After the military, El worked at Santee Print Works, South Carolina Department of Corrections and Gamecock Chemicals for many years until he retired. El was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Elliott, where he served as an usher and with the United Methodist Men. El was a member of Hiram Lodge #79, Elliott, where he served as the Worshipful Master. He was the Grand Sr. Deacon with Williams Grand Lodge, Orangeburg, and a member of Omar Temple #119, Denmark. El leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Janet L. King; two daughters, Monica (Charles) King of the home and Roneshia King of Bishopville; two grand daughters, Myaasia Davis and Za’hria Gamble; two sisters, Lillian King of Elliott, and Hannah (Tommy) Smith of Society Hill; three brothers, Charles King of Elliott, Johnny (Josephine) King of Columbia and Rickey (Karen) Sittle of Danville, VA; nine sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. El was proceeded in death by his son, Shawn Wardell King; three sisters, Lizzie, Brenda and Hattie and two brothers, Alvin and James King. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 232 Masters Drive, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Lee Central High School, 1800 Wysacky Highway, Bishopville, with Elder Rickey Harriott, Presiding, and the Rev. Pernerva Thomas, Pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Elliott, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the Auditorium at 11:00 a. m. for viewing until time of the services. The Funeral procession will leave the home at 11:20 a. m. Burial will be Monday, December 11, 2023 at 9:00 a. m. in the Florence National Cemetery, 803 East National Cemetery Road, Florence.
