Gertrude McLauglin Jefferson, affectionately known as “Gert” or “Trudy”, was born October 18,1947 in Sumter County to late Son Hunter and Dorthea Jenkins. On February 13, 2024, she quietly transitioned from this life home to glory. She was educated in Sumter County Schools and employed by Sumter County and Eagle Inn Hotel throughout her early years until her illness. Gert was a faithful member of Joshua Baptist Church, Dalzell, where she served as a faithful member of the Usher Board, Pastor Aide and choir. Surviving to cherish fond memories; two daughters, Patricia “Irene” Jefferson of Killeen, TX, Sharon Garner (Dwaine) of Sumter; two sons, Bruce Alex (Chandra) Jefferson of Rembert, Al-ziz Rashid “Bobby” (Latonya) of Sumter; one brother, Ernest Jenkins of Sumter; three sisters, Nancy Jenkins and Emma Dinkins, both of Sumter and Annie Mae Dixon of Bishopville; one uncle, Thomas Jenkins Sr. (Barbara); seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Alex Jefferson; her parents, mother-in-law Evelyn Jefferson; sister, Betty Jenkins; brother-in-law, James Jefferson Sr.; sisters-in-laws, Evelyn Mahoney, Hannah Jenkins, Catherine Prescott, and Janie Bright; uncles, John Henry Jenkins (Anna Margaret), and aunts. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 915 Miller Road, # 22B, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Monday, February 19, 2024 at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, Pastor, and Pastor Rosa Muldrow, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 am for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m.
